A Tally alternative with the same easy start

Tally and HornetForms both build forms like a doc and give you unlimited responses for free, each under a fair use policy. Here's an honest look at where they differ, so you can pick the one that fits.

Why people look at HornetForms next to Tally

Tally is a great tool, and its free plan is generous. If you're happy there, you may not need to move. People who compare the two usually care about a few things: the yearly price of the paid plans, bringing forms over from Typeform, design control and built-in analytics.

  • Unlimited forms and responses on every plan, Free included
  • Pro for $240 a year and Business for $720 a year, with unlimited teammates
  • A free Typeform importer
  • 20+ question types, including signature, ranking, matrix and scheduling
  • Built-in analytics on every plan, with no cookies
  • An AI form builder on every plan, with a monthly allowance
  • Payments through your own Stripe account, with no HornetForms fee

Notes

  1. Microsoft's limits are per form and depend on the account type. Typeform and Jotform count responses per month across all your forms. HornetForms and Tally both have a fair use policy.
  2. US dollars as shown on each pricing page, before tax. HornetForms' yearly prices are totals for the year.
  3. Respondents never sign in to upload a file to a HornetForms form.

Where the numbers come from

Everything in the HornetForms column is a feature you can use today, on the plan named. Competitor prices and limits come from their own pricing and help pages, linked above, on the date shown; they change, so check them before you decide. Where we couldn't confirm something on their site, we say so instead of guessing. Typeform, Jotform, Google Forms, Microsoft Forms and Tally are trademarks of their respective owners; HornetForms is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of them.

Two free plans, different paid plans

Both free plans give you unlimited forms and responses under a fair use policy, so most people can start on either one without paying. Tally's paid plans add branding removal, custom domains and more, and Tally offers a discount when you pay yearly. See the price points below and check Tally's pricing page for the monthly price. HornetForms Pro costs $240 a year or $29 a month, and Business costs $720 a year or $89 a month. One subscription covers your account, with unlimited teammates and workspaces. Pro adds badge removal, your logo and custom CSS, partial responses and one custom domain. Business adds the REST API and 10 custom domains.

Both feel like writing a doc

In both tools you open a page and type. Press / to add a question or a content block, and the form reads top to bottom the way respondents see it. If you like one, you'll probably feel at home in the other. HornetForms adds design control on every plan: 9 theme presets, 21 fonts and your own colours. Pro adds your logo, a cover image and custom CSS.

Where the features differ

Both tools put conditional logic, calculations and answer piping on the free plan, and both connect to Google Sheets, Notion, Slack and Zapier. Both take payments in forms too: Tally lists payments on its free plan, and HornetForms has a Payment block on every plan. HornetForms has built-in, cookieless analytics on every plan: views, starts, completions, drop-off, traffic sources and devices. It also imports Typeform forms for free and drafts a form for you with AI (3 generations a month on Free, 30 on Pro, 100 on Business). HornetForms payments go straight to your own Stripe account. Charge a fixed amount or a price worked out from the answers. HornetForms adds no fee of its own, and Stripe's processing fees apply. Check Tally's pricing page for how its payments and fees work.
